The Unknown and Glorious Sri Shankareshwara Betta is about 143km from Mysuru, located in Hirekalgudda Forest. Sri Shankareshwara Temple is present at the top of the hill which is surrounded by eye soothing forest. There is only muddy stone road to reach this place. Hence one needs to have a powerful BHP vehicle or 4×4 jeep with good riding skill to reach this place via vehicle. One can also trek from the bottom of the hill. The idol inside the temple is udbhava murthy. The place once ruled by Palegara Thimmappa Nayaka. Calm, peaceful and blissful place with mesmerising nature all around. Forest and plants research area, hence late night trekking and camping is restricted. Ancient writing can be seen on the stone slab.
